Essential Oils for Greater Love
With Valentine's Day on the horizon, let's look at how our gorgeous essential oils can support deeper intimacy.

February is the month of love, and Valentine's day is just around the corner, so let's explore the magic of essential oils to support your sexual health. Whether you are a Valentines' Day fan or not (I do get the argument for the over-commercialized stress of hallmark cards, chocolates, and gifts,) love and physical intimacy are essential for our well-being and joie de vivre. We all have the same need to love and be loved. Many essential oils have aphrodisiac properties that enhance passion, stimulate the body and awaken the senses.
Besides the apparent benefits of LOVE and PLEASURE are the added health benefits of emotional intimacy: stress reduction, pain relief, boosted immunity, burning calories, improved heart health, lowered blood pressure, better self-esteem, prostate health, stronger pelvic floor muscles, improved bladder control, and better sleep. So let's have fun with some oils for love and intimacy this February!
Let's jump in. When we think about sensuality, the first thing that comes to our minds involves the senses—the sense of touch, taste, and smell. Essential oils help awaken all of our senses, and with that, we're able to awaken different centers in the brain; we can calm the brain or excite it depending on the emotional quality of the essential oil we chose and what we want to evoke at any given moment.
One thing we all have in common is that we have a lot going on every day with our busy schedules, running around, taking care of our home, family, kids, jobs that can leave so little time for ourselves or our loved ones. If this resonates with you, then the calming essential oils are best to begin with to get you in the space of feeling more open, centered, and connected.
One of my favorites, which is just a tremendous versatile essential oil, is Wild Orange. This essential oil is considered an aphrodisiac. It's known as the oil of the inner child because it has a spontaneous, joyful, and playful quality. I love its smell, and it's a really great oil to diffuse to help you get in that open, playful, and relaxed space.
Another one of my favorite heart-based essential oils is Ylang Ylang. It has been known as a powerful aphrodisiac for a long time, as it increases sexual desire, calms anxiety, boosts energy, and opens the heart. I will often just put a drop on my heart to help me drop into my heart space and heal any stuck feelings there. Since it's a strong-smelling oil, I love to blend it with Wild Orange and maybe a drop of Patchouli, Jasmine, Neroli, Rose, or Lavender.
An important issue that affects how we are feeling emotionally and sexually are our hormones. They have a big say in our emotions and can wreaks havoc in our love life if not balanced. One powerful hormonal balancer for women is Clary Sage. It also has aphrodisiac properties and is pretty euphoric. It helps calm and soothes stress, reduces anxious feelings, releases inhibitions, removes emotional blocks, and opens communication. I love to use this one topically by adding it to a massage blend and a little bit to the diffuser. Another essential oil that's going to help support and balance the hormones is Clary Calm. It's the natural way to regain composure and help you center when hormones derail your day. I love its floral, feminine aroma and how gently it provides that cooling and soothing effect when rolled on the back of the neck, the lower abdomen, or the temples. If you suffer from PMS, tough periods, or are peri-menopausal or menopausal like me, this will be a huge ally to keep you feeling calm and balanced.
Whisper is another fantastic blend for women that you can wear every day instead of a perfume. If you are a woman and don't have a man in your life (and want one), this is the perfect oil to wear. I cannot tell you how many times I've literally seen women wearing this oil and men just drawn to them. A friend who sells this blend in her store says men come in, smell it on her, ask what it is and then buy it for their wives and their girlfriends because they really like the smell. Yes, it smells sweet, musky, spicy, and alluring… and the best part is it balances hormones, is deeply emotional balancing, and helps women drop into their feminine power and presence. It comes in a roller touch that is easy to roll on temples, back of neck, chest, abdomen, or inner thighs.
Patchouli essential oil is another aphrodisiac. It's very stimulating, decreases inhibitions, increases desire and emotional response. I'll be honest; it's not my favorite smell. However, I have a friend buying bottles of it for her and her boyfriend because it is such a powerful oil for them. Also, a friend's husband was literally begging her to wear this oil. I guess Patchouli is a very stimulating smell for some. As for me, I do like it mixed with other oils. Patchouli would be the base note, Clary Sage the middle note, and then the top note would be something like Wild Orange.
Another special oil I keep by the bed is Sandalwood. It is used in meditation as an oil opens one to the feeling of devotion, promotes emotional intimacy, and increases sensuality. It creates unprompted interaction and helps lovers get out of a sexual slump. It's a very spiritual oil, just like Frankincense. They have been used for centuries for religious rituals. Both of these oils help you connect to the divine, intensify communication and intimacy, arouse the senses, and calm the mind simultaneously.
An all-time favorite of mine is Passion! I love this blend. It just dares you to try something new, as well as discover renewed joy for the current blessings in your life. You can also use the Passion Touch as a personal fragrance or applied to pulse points, chest, neck, abdomen, wrists, or sternum. If you feel like you've lost your mojo then this inspiring blend will help you rekindle excitement in your life, ignite a passion when there seems to be little, and transcend the trivial. You can say goodbye to the boring, the mundane, the predictable, and welcome in a life full of vigor. Sweet and spicy, this oil is beloved by men and women alike and is a great oil for the bedroom's pleasures.
For a particularly zesty session, check these oils out:
Cinnamon is considered the oil of sexual chemistry; it spreads warmth throughout the body and boosts sexual desire. Note that it is a very hot oil, so you would definitely want to dilute it if you're going to use it topically. It's a great one to use internally too! You can add it to some chocolate fondue or some truffles. But again, be very careful with Cinnamon.
Black Pepper is a known aphrodisiac, with an erotic aroma that adds zest and liveliness to the love life. It warms the senses and can renew the flames of passion. It's an excellent oil to use for massage because it's warming, and just a little bit will help get the circulation going and kind of get things moving.
Peppermint is actually very cooling. So a drop of peppermint on the tongue before kissing can be very nice.
Bergamot is the oil of self-love. It helps you to feel in love with yourself, which is a good thing because you can only give what you have. So, you have to love yourself first if you're going to love others. It's also really joyful and kind of elevates the spirit and lightens things up.
Ginger boosts vigor and heats up the libido; ignites passion and desire.
Geranium essential oil aids in opening up the heart and improving communication in the relationship.
Grapefruit instills self-‐confidence and positivity, invites playfulness, and brightens up the mood.
Lavender comforts the heart, relaxes and balances, helps mend and nurture the relationship.
Rose, known as the Queen of oils, is the absolute oil of romance. It is stimulating, harmonizing, helps open up the heart, and brings feelings of love, care, and affection.
These are some of the essential oils that will be really good to help you get in a sensual mood. I recommend using this Deeper Intimacy diffuser blend because it is a lovely way to set the mood.
